According to Kotaku Lucas arts is looking to remake Monkey Island 2 with updated graphics.. It will probably look really similar to their remake of the first Monkey Island.
Sometimes I love remakes; I’m eagerly anticipating the soon-to-be-released Perfect Dark Xbox Live remake but sometimes classics don’t age as well as we remember.
I purchased the Monkey Island special edition for Xbox a few days after its release, hoping to relive my beloved days of adventure gaming. I don’t know if my expectations were too high but I was severely disappointed. The game still had its charm, awesome jokes and quirky puzzles; I just couldn’t stick it out. It was fun for a few hours but it didn’t manage to keep my attention. The whole adventure genre in general feels very dated. Today’s gamer, even ones looking for that nostalgic feel, and expects a lot more from their gaming.
Heavy Rain definitely doesn’t follow the traditional point-and-click formula of classic adventure games but it definitely has that story driven puzzle game play feel. There definitely is still an audience out there for adventure gaming but I think it’s getting smaller and smaller with each passing year.
Games that we loved when we were young don’t always shape up to be that awesome years later. Some classic games are able to stand the test of time and in some respects the Monkey Island series really did. Lechucks still the most awesome pirate that ever lived, Jack Sparrow does not even compete, but the game just couldn’t keep me hooked like it used too. Perhaps it’s just me and my taste in games has changed?
