To all those who are playing Skyrim I raise my hand in salute. For those thinking about it that haven’t played other Bethesda made games such as Fallout 3 or other Elder Scrolls entries like Morrowind, Oblivion, etcetera – keep in mind this game can be downright addictive. The game’s ability to grab and hold your attention is, for the most part, a good thing. You can spend over a hundred and fifty hours in-game and still not run out of things to do. Skyrim’s ‘Radiant Story,’ designed to create random quests for players to fulfill on the fly, means that technically you will never run out of quests. (I… (more…)
I created a list in August 2010 entitled ‘The Never Ending Console vs. PC Debate.’ The piece detailed my reasons for being a console gamer as opposed to being a PC gamer. I’m here today to hang my head in shame and let the PC community know that I’ve seen the light. Well, sort of… I’ve never been one for claiming that a specific gaming platform is superior to the other. In fact, I feel that the last post was taken slightly out of context, yet I do admit that from the beginning it implied consoles were superior. I’m going to take the three points I mentioned before and discuss… (more…)
Everyone is waiting for this year’s big retail titles like Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite and whatever the Wii U will end up becoming (I’m hoping it doesn’t turn into another Sega Saturn). But while there are many ‘AAA’ retail games coming out, it’s worth reminding you that the smaller, downloadable and indie game space is growing huge. So, I’m presenting you with a list of games you should be paying more attention to than whatever shooter is crawling out of the latest big name developer. Some are indie favorites, others are downloadable and a couple are retail games, but you should take notice of all of them over the… (more…)
The Old Republic saw release a little over a week ago and needless to say the numbers have been staggering. I expected the game to do well, but I didn’t expect it to do this well. There is a good chance that Star Wars: The Old Republic may be able to overtake the World of Warcraft in its twilight hours – at least where the casual player is concerned. I myself have let my WoW account fall by the wayside and have to put at least 40 hours into SW:TOR since I got the game. That is a large time commitment for me, especially these days. Despite all the praise… (more…)
I started Minecraft with the hope of becoming the greatest wizard of all wizards in Minecraft history. I had it all planned out; I would make a little wizard house, fill it with books, find diamonds and make an enchantment table, go to the nether, get the means to make potions and finally go to The End to defeat the Ender dragon. It was a wonderful plan. But of course, Minecraft is a magical land filled with distraction, and therefore I accidentally became a witch – in the Terry Pratchett sense I mean. That is to say, I became a farmer/hunter-gatherer. I don’t know how it is that I always… (more…)
My name is Kory and I’m addicted to the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I can’t stop ‘chasing the purple dragon’…and I literally mean winged monsters from the sky. Skyrim, a single-player epic RPG from Bethesda Softworks, is the fifth and arguably greatest installment in the celebrated Elder Scrolls series. Set in the Viking-inspired Nordic nation of Skyrim, the game is open-world, open-ended and filled with enough content to be virtually inexhaustible to the average gamer. For these reasons, I have been unable to tear myself away from the game since I first received my copy. During those brief times when I have been forced to take a break, I talk… (more…)
I don’t generally comment on the big Triple ‘A’ titles. Unless I find an angle that I think no one else has thought of (and someone has always thought of it before you), I just consider it a waste of my time. However, after playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the other day, I figured I might as well chime in anyway. You likely know what this post is going to be about. Yup, the Eiffel Tower. How could they do that to the Statue of Liberty – of France? (Fun Fact: The French Statue of Liberty is actually located near the Grenelle Bridge in Paris.) So that was… (more…)
I’ve been eagerly anticipating Skyrim for years. I’d probably even say that it’s the only release I’ve been excited about in a very long time. There’s a reason for this sense of excitment and anticipation though. Usually, when I’m interested in a game, I’m all up on the interwebs trying to gather every news snipet ever released about that particular title. In some cases, I go the extra mile and sift through gaming related forums, mercilessly hunting down the latest rumours and information. When Skyrim was first announced, I didn’t search for any information about the game at all. In fact, I’ve actively avoided reading anything about Bethesda’s latest epic. When I finally… (more…)
I’m not alone in thinking that the Call of Duty games have gone downhill. Patrick and Daniel are on the same page with me on that. After watching the trailers and reading up on both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, I needed to make a decision. To be honest, it really wasn’t a tough one. Having analyzed the videos for the new CoD, all I saw was a CoD 4 that looked slightly better. Conversely, I participated in the Battlefield 3 beta and it piqued my interest. There was some deliberation, but I finally caved and picked up Battlefield 3 so that I’d have something to play with most of the people on… (more…)
BioWare recently announced that Mass Effect 3 will include a co-operative multiplayer mode alongside the main storyline. The new mode will allow fans to play together through a set of missions designed to affect the storyline of the main game. This news has been met with strong resistance from both the gaming community and even some games press. That being the case, I figured we should take a look at what we know and what people are thinking. Is fan and journalism apprehension justified? BioWare has said that the co-op missions will have an effect on your game’s story. The main concern with this is a matchmaking service that groups… (more…)
