Xbox live subscriptions are finally receiving a price hike. According to a post on Major Nelson’s blog Xbox Live will now cost $59.99 rather than the current price of $49.99. One month subscriptions will be $9.99, a jump up from the old price of $7.99 and three months will rise from $19.99 to $24.99.

The price of a subscription in the U.K will jump from 4.99 GPB to 5.99 GPB a month, Canadian subscriptions will now be $9.99 and Mexicans will now have to pay 599 Pesos instead of 499.

I guess a price hike is long over due, the price has been the same for 8 years now but that doesn’t mean I want to pay money for a service that should probably be free. Although I do get what I pay for, Xbox Live is great and has improved every year that I’ve subscribed to it.

At least my money is going to good use. Let us know what you think about this new price hike in the comments section.

  1. Actually, the one guy I know who uses the PSN regularly has little to no trouble with it. He just has to deal with the giant slow patches every time he plays a game. I hope PSN+ boosts the service a little though. I’ve been looking into a PS3 again recently because I started playing Wipeout Pulse on my PSP again and I really, really, REALLY want more Wipeout… And LBP2…

  2. I’ve never understood why people thought this should be a free service to be honest. The quality of Xbox Live has always been high and easily worth the price they’ve put on it so far. Microsoft have been talking about improving the service more since they shut off the old Xboxes from the servers, the first of these changes appears to be the Headset audio quality boost.

Also, I was sooo gonna write this story just now. >o< Glad I checked before I started.

    • Yup I’ve always felt the price was worth it especially if they keep improving the service. I don’t know much about the PSN, I don’t own a PS3, but I have friends that do and all they do is complain about the PlayStation Network.
